Rising 9th Graders

Welcome…

We’re thrilled that you’re interested in theatre at Cambridge High School! Though still a young program, under the leadership of Mr. Cory Kelley, we’ve already achieved remarkable success.

  • In 2020, during the early days of the pandemic, the AJC recognized us for our innovative approach to theatre with The Occurrence at Sleepy Hollow.

  • In 2021, our GHSA One Act Play, The Diary of Anne Frank, earned State Runner-Up in 6A.

  • In 2023, we became Georgia High School Association 5A State Champions with The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.

What to Take?

A great and important question to ask! It depends on how much you are wanting to do.

ALL-IN!

If you live and breathe theatre, then you want to audition for our Advanced Company. Advanced Company consists of all levels of Acting (1-4), but is reserved for those students who want to be actively involved in our after-school program. This class alone will be responsible for presenting three of the four productions of the year (though you can only be in two of them), including our contest one act play, a children’s show, and our spring production.

Because the class is offered 6th period, we will begin rehearsals for our shows currently in production during our class time, which will carry through into after-school rehearsal, thereby eliminating as much time after the final bell as we currently have. Nonetheless, when a production goes into Tech Week, the time commitment will go up. More details will be provided with calendars before auditions for productions occur.

There are required expenses for students who participate in ADV. COMPANY. This includes jacket and garment bag (unless you already purchased), individual production fees, company shirt, and the Georgia Thespian Convention expenses.

I’m interested in theatre, but I am already so busy!

We offer Acting 1-4 for students who are looking to develop their craft as actors, but don’t want to do so with the commitment of being involved after-school. Acting 1-4 will teach you methods and styles to help grow you as a performer, and will let you know better whether to pursue Advanced Company in future years.

I’m interested in theatre, BUT want to be behind the scenes!

Fantastic! We offer Technical Theatre 1-4 for any student who is interested in creating for the stage.

If you are ALL-IN on Technical Theatre and have the space in your schedule, and would like to be in ADV. COMPANY, as well, please let me know. There are some students who have expressed interest in both, so they can see what is happening in rehearsals during class that may influence their creative/construction process.

I was born to SING, DANCE, and ACT

Musical Theatre is a new course offered. Students will develop their skills as singers, actors, and dancers in this class that will be co-taught by Ms. Watts and Mr. Kelley. Any student who wishes to participate in our school musical must be involved in Musical Theatre or Advanced Drama to audition.
